  • July 20, 1982 - President Ronald Reagan removes the United States from the ongoing Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty talks in Geneva. This action ends two decades of negotiations.
  • July 21, 1945 - President Truman approves order for atomic bombs to be used.
  • July 29, 1957 - The United Nations establishes the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)to promote peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
